first day media theory

okay... today on our first class of media theory, we were taught how to get access to the electronic databases. basically by doing so it allows you to search for articles from journals and newspapaer using subject, keywords, case name, author or title as search terms.

wells this is what i can remember;

log into www.swinburne.edu.au/lib/

once you're in, click on the "Databases" on the left side of the screen and go into EBSCOhost.
scroll down onto academic search complete, australian/new zealend reference centre and computers and applied sciences complete. make sure tha the boxes on the left of these heading are ticked!

try making a search on a particualr subject, where on this case is called history of internet. hundreds thousand of pages will appearand we dont want that as it will confuse us and just make things harder.

ways to break this down is by using the advanced search!! here you can search things in more specific ways such as name of author, source, subject terms, or abstract and you can keepon adding them! try it and the results compare with before the hundreds thousands, will break down into thoumsand, hundreds or less.

we also have the same advantage in google. use the advanced search to break things down and get more specific information that we are after, use this symbol ". for example "histor of the internet". what this do is the web look for information as a whole sentence not by words.
